just read this story in Kak Aliya's blog, thought it'd worth sharingReceived this story some time back but decided to share this today, in memory of my happy-go-lucky 89-year-old Grandpa who still cycled around the neighbourhood in his bicycle the day before he passed away of old age, back in 2006.
An old man of 92, who still takes care of his looks, moved into a old folks' home. His wife had just passed away, and being childless, he was forced to move. After waiting at the lobby for half an hour,
He smiled gently at the nurse as he followed her to his room.
The nurse was telling the old man about the new curtan which she had hung in his room.
"I like it very much, " he said.
"But Sir, you haven't seen your room," replied the nurse. "Just a few more minutes and we'll be there."
What he said amazed her.
"Oh, that has nothing to do with it. Happiness is something I choose in advance. Whether or not I like the room does not depend on the furniture or the decor - rather, it depends on how I decide to see it.
It's already decided in my mind that I like my room. It is a decision I take every morning when I wake up.
I can choose. I can spend my day enumerating all the difficulties that I have with the parts of my body that no longer work very well, or I can get up and give thanks to God for those parts that are still in working order.
Everyday is a gift and as long as I can open my eyes, I will focus on the new day and all the happy memories that I have built during my life.
Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw in later life what you have deposited along the way.
So my advice to you is to deposit all the happiness you can in your bank account of memories."
Life is too short to spend it on being unhappy, unsatisfied, or angry at someone or something.
Instead, choose to be happy.
It's easy... follow these simple rules:
1. Free your heart from hate [and anger, dissatisfaction, jealousy, etc]
2. Free your mind from worry [it'd only add wrinkles on your face and higher medical bills]
3. Live simple [deposit more in your heavenly account]
4. Give more [of your time, love, attention, and lastly but not least your $]
5. Expect less [count your blessings.. they're really countless]
HAVE A BLESSED WEEKEND.
