Contemplating

Just got back from a talk given by Brother Hussein Baxter, a Warwick alumnus. He's really an awesome speaker, I must say. ...and I've got a thought on how I can change things, seeing how I've got myself really obsessed with Linux and Ubuntu, learning all the codes by myself, and still have that kind of energy to Google for anything to do with Linux, every single day..

There must be something I can apply for my study....How to make myself really into all those statistics stuffs....

I've got something big planned out for the weekend...

May Allah help me, when I help others.. Ameen..

Open Source,Android And Linux

I'm all out for an open source ecosystem

-Last year,I got tired of iPod Touch in less than 24 hours and sold it at Amazon the next day, primarily because of lack of customizations.

-HTC Hero is super awesome, just got it for about a week and I'm still admiring Android OS(which is Linux in its core).....Android + HTC Sense UI is absolutely gorgeous, I can do whatever I want on my phone, changing this and that, customizing every single part of the device......wooohooo...now, that's what I call a real phone.

-Don't think I'll ever going back to Microsoft Windows. Ubuntu Linux has served me really well,...although support for proprietary Windows-based games and softwares sucks but alternatives do exist, most of them available free of charge...

Why would I want to pay good money to Microsoft when I can use OpenOffice.org for free, there's Firefox,Chrome and Opera for internet browsing, GIMP to replace Adobe photoshop, VLC instead of Windows Media Player, etc,etc....

and no need to worry about viruses anymore.....And again, full customization capabilities....did I mention it's free of charge??.....ooooh...I Love Linux...

Leveraging Your Social Network To Raise Money For Charity

I'm amazed at how social media has changed the way we do things.A few examples:

-$3 Million-amount of Dell claimed to have earned via Twitter post since 2007
-In February 2008, John McCain raised $11 Million for his US Presidential bid,
the same month Barack Obama attended no campaign fundraisers
-Instead Obama leveraged online social networks to raise $55 Million in those 29 days
therefore, please do help Warwick Islamic Society raising money for Islamic Relief during this charity week.Donate online now! http://justgiving.com/warwickisoc

I personally request you to please retweet my twitter post, put this on your blog, change your facebook status, send personal sms to your closest friends, and also please do donate for this cause.

Hadith: "None of you truly believes (in Allah and in His religion) until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself"
[Al-Bukhari & Muslim]
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "When a man dies, his deeds come to an end, except for three: A continuous charity, knowledge by which people derive benefit, pious son who prays for him.''
[Muslim].

THE OLD MAN'S CHOICE

just read this story in Kak Aliya's blog, thought it'd worth sharing

Received this story some time back but decided to share this today, in memory of my happy-go-lucky 89-year-old Grandpa who still cycled around the neighbourhood in his bicycle the day before he passed away of old age, back in 2006.

An old man of 92, who still takes care of his looks, moved into a old folks' home. His wife had just passed away, and being childless, he was forced to move. After waiting at the lobby for half an hour,
He smiled gently at the nurse as he followed her to his room.
The nurse was telling the old man about the new curtan which she had hung in his room.
"I like it very much, " he said.
"But Sir, you haven't seen your room," replied the nurse. "Just a few more minutes and we'll be there."
What he said amazed her.
"Oh, that has nothing to do with it. Happiness is something I choose in advance. Whether or not I like the room does not depend on the furniture or the decor - rather, it depends on how I decide to see it.
It's already decided in my mind that I like my room. It is a decision I take every morning when I wake up.
I can choose. I can spend my day enumerating all the difficulties that I have with the parts of my body that no longer work very well, or I can get up and give thanks to God for those parts that are still in working order.
Everyday is a gift and as long as I can open my eyes, I will focus on the new day and all the happy memories that I have built during my life.
Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw in later life what you have deposited along the way.
So my advice to you is to deposit all the happiness you can in your bank account of memories."

Life is too short to spend it on being unhappy, unsatisfied, or angry at someone or something.
Instead, choose to be happy.
It's easy... follow these simple rules:

1. Free your heart from hate [and anger, dissatisfaction, jealousy, etc]
2. Free your mind from worry [it'd only add wrinkles on your face and higher medical bills]
3. Live simple [deposit more in your heavenly account]
4. Give more [of your time, love, attention, and lastly but not least your $]
5. Expect less [count your blessings.. they're really countless]

HAVE A BLESSED WEEKEND.

London Demonstration: Afghanistan, Troops Out Now!!

Spent the day in London, joining thousands of people demonstrating for Afghanistan. Had a sore throat after so much of screaming and shouting but still, it was fun...marching with strangers regardless of color, religion and social status, it was really awesome. Solidarity towards something we all believe in.
